Description

Poutine is Canada's quintessential comfort food. It’s a delicious and decadent dish of hot, crispy French fries and squeaky cheese curds, all smothered in a rich, savory brown gravy. The heat from the fries and gravy gently melts the cheese curds, creating a wonderfully gooey texture. It's a simple dish with a cult following, and for good reason. It's the perfect late-night snack or a hearty meal in itself.

A Taste of History

Poutine emerged in rural Quebec in the late 1950s. While several towns claim to be its birthplace, the most widely accepted story credits Fernand Lachance of Warwick, who, at a customer's request, added cheese curds to a bag of fries, exclaiming, "ça va faire une maudite poutine!" ("it will make a damn mess!"). The gravy was added later to keep the dish warm. It has since become a symbol of Canadian cuisine.
